Indigo Riviere is a SnowDancer lieutenant, right hand to Riley Kincaid, and mate to his brother, Andrew Kincaid. She and Andrew are the main protagonists in the ninth book of the main series, Play of Passion.

Biography[]

Childhood[]

Indigo's younger sister, Evie, was often sick in childhood and, rather than becoming jealous of the attention, worried over her beloved little sister.[1] She knew that caring for Evie was hard on their parents, so she instinctively hid her own pains in order to not add to their burden and became stubbornly independent.[2]

At 14, she grew to her full height and was rather awkward, feeling like a clumsy giant; however, as an adult, she loves her height. Her junior year she developed breasts and shared intimate skin privileges for the first time with another changeling named Dominic. He was an exchange student from Ecuador and even though he was dominant, too, he freaked out when her claws sliced out.[3]

SnowDancer[]

In 2077, Indigo took over novice training and for the four years before that she’d assisted her dad, Abel, in the role.[4]

Physical Appearance[]

Tall at 5'10,"[5] slender and definitely deadly, she's named for the colour of her eyes, which she gets from her mom,[6] as well as her height and blue-black hair.[4] Her long hair is often worn braided for training. Indigo's scent smells like steel and spring rainstorms.[7]

As a wolf, she's deep grey with burnished gold eyes and long legs.[8]

Personality and Traits[]

She's known for being calm and collected.[9] She prefers order and sees the pack hierarchy as the core of that order;[10] she also likes things in black and white.[11]

The women in the pack love and respect Indigo, used to worry over how hard she worked.[12]

Abilities and Skills[]

Responsible officer for training the soldiers of the Snow Dancer main den. Riley's right hand.

Relationships[]

Abel Riviere[]

Indigo and her father have always butted heads as they’re both dominant. When she was a teenager, he'd have to pull rank to get her to back down, which paradoxically irritated and calmed her in equal amounts. Now, however, she outranks him, but she'd never bring that up in a million years because the hierarchy of family units are different from that of the pack.[4]

Adria Morgan[]

Andrew Kincaid[]

Evie Riviere[]

She is very protective of her submissive little sister. Evie's boyfriend, Tai, had, had to work up the courage to face Indigo before asking Evie out.[4]

Mercy Smith[]

As another dominant woman in a changeling pack she is friends with Mercy.

Sienna Lauren Snow[]

Although Indigo initially saw taking on Sienna's training as almost punishment, she became Sienna's mentor and confidant. It took her six months to break through Sienna's prickly exterior to see that underneath she was deeply afraid of her own power, more afraid of it than anything else.[1] She knew that Sienna was always harder on herself than Indigo was.[13]

Tarah Riviere[]

Indigo is close with her mom and a couple of times a week, every week, they spend some time together since she was 10 years old.  Since Evie had often been sick, nearly dying a few times, Tarah made sure that Indigo never felt neglected.  Tarah always makes the coffee when they're together because Indigo thinks she makes it better, Tarah says the secret ingredient is love.[4]

Trivia[]

  • She collects fossils.[14]

Quotes[]

The tall female with blue-black hair and cool white skin was beautiful. She was also lethal. Vaughn had seen her take down males twice her size without batting an eye.[15]

Dressed in those practical pants and a black tank that clung to her body like a second skin, her hair pulled off her face in a tight ponytail, Indigo was beauty without ornamentation - strong, lethal beauty.[1]

Appearances[]

Slave to Sensation[]

Indigo's the first to find Sascha Duncan when she set her car to automatic and fell unconscious, ending up in SnowDancer territory.[16] She accompanies Hawke when he confronts Lucas Hunter over Sascha.[17]

Visions of Heat[]

Accompanying Hawke to a meeting with Lucas Hunter and Vaughn D'Angelo, Indigo tells the leopards she'd found a lynx changeling high on jax. He'd been stuck midshift for a few days with one paw and patches of fur all over. While she tried to get him to a healer, he went into convulsions, then shifted back and forth several times only for it to end when he died. The body had both human and animal parts with skin inside out and the bones in unnatural places. Indigo assumes it was a Psy ploy to poison them.[15]

Caressed by Ice[]

Indigo investigates the murder of a packmate, discussing it briefly with Brenna and questioning Judd for an alibi.[18] She takes a hyena changeling captive, but he refuses to speak no matter how scary she gets, and she brings in Judd Lauren.[19] Upon learning the hyena was under Psy mind control, she wants Judd to reprogram him to be their spy, but he refuses to enslave anyone, which makes her feel horrible for considering it.[20]

Branded by Fire[]

Indigo relays the Rats' report that Human Alliance soldiers are moving around San Francisco. Riley teases her when she's curious over a gift from Toby Lauren, saying that she's been hanging out with Mercy Smith too much. Indigo says of course she has since they're the pretty much the only two in the area with the same level of dominance.[21] Mercy later gives Indigo's phone number to a visiting leopard sentinel, Hamilton.[22]
